The Archpriest
Rev. Can. Robin Camilleri

Robin Camilleri was born at Gzira on the 30th of May 1979. He is the son of Victor Camilleri and Emmanuela nee’ Micallef and was baptized in 1979 in the Parish Church of Ta’ Xbiex by Fr Anġeliku Busuttil. He received his early education at Gzira Primary and afterwards continued to Vincenzo Buġeja Secondary School in Birkirkara.

After finishing from school Robin started working at Seifert MTM factory at Ħal Far and as a librarian at the University of Malta Library. Sometime afterwards he re-entered MUSEUM, where he became an associate member in 1998. He served both at the Gzira and Ħal Luqa branches. The latter is where he resided until he was posted to Senglea.

In September 2005 he began his studies as a priest at the Seminary and the University of Malta where he spent the next seven years studying. During this time he also served in a number of different parishes, some of which are Ħal Luqa, Zejtun and M’Scala. He also served as a missionary in Sicily and Palermo and in Peru, where amongst other things he worked with the Sisters of Mercy and with children sick with HIV.

In Summer 2011, as soon as he completed his sixth year of formation at the Seminary, he was posted in the Parish of Senglea. Fr Robin was ordained Deacon by his Ecc. Mons. Paul Cremona O.P., the then Archbishop of Malta, on Friday 14th October 2011 at the Parish Church in Zejtun. Fr Robin served his year of deaconship in Senglea. 

Fr. Robin was ordained priest by the same Mons. Paul Cremona O.P. on Friday 29th June 2012. He was then asked to continue to serve at the Parish Church of Senglea. During this time he also served on the Secretariat for Catechesis. Between September 2013 and January 2014 he also served as Spiritual Director at the Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology (MCAST).

On the 1st of February 2004 his Ecc. Mons. Paul Cremona O.P. appointed Fr Robin as Administrator of the Parish of Senglea and later on the 12th of April he was asked to become the next Archpriest of the same parish. Although Fr Robin conducted all Lent and Easter Celebrations in Senglea he was not yet officially Archpriest of Senglea. In fact on Sunday 18th of May 2014 his Ecc. Mons Charles J. Scicluna, the then Auxiliary Bishop and Vicar-general officially appointed Fr Robin as Canon and the seventeenth Archpriest of the Collegiate Basilica of Senglea, during a mass celebrated at the Basilica. His witnesses at the swearing in as a member of the Chapter where Can. Theologian, Rev. Mark Ellul and Can. Treasurer, Rev. Paul Schembri. Whilst his witnesses for his swearing in as Archpriest were Mons. Anton Gouder, the then Pro Vicar-general, and Fr Hayden Williams OFM Cap.

In May 2015 the Archbisop appointed Can. Camilleri to represent the Church in Malta on the Leap Network Project.
